Spring pollen is gone, and you're still sneezing? Is it a cold, or summer allergies?
According to the experts at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, the big allergy triggers during our warmer months are grass and mold. And adults, who may have never suffered through an allergy season may get a sudden case of adult-onset allergies and mistake if for a nasty summer cold.
Here are some basics on how to know the difference:
- If your symptoms linger for a couple of weeks, it's likely allergies.
- But if your symptoms go from bad to worse quickly, it's more apt to be a summer cold.
- Itchy eyes and wheezing usually equal allergies.
- While mucus that changes color can be either.
Worldwide, allergic rhinitis affects between 10 to 30% of the population. A trip to the doctor can help decide if you've joined this growing group.
